To be honest, the word “artist” is one I still have trouble with using as my title. I majored in Global Design and I always saw myself as a graphic designer, never did I picture myself as an artist. AT ALL. It is funny how life has bigger plans for all of us.
One day I drew a picture of a “Rhino”, which was meant to be used as a tattoo by a friend who wanted one. However, I never showed it to him nor did I tell him about it. Instead, I shared the drawing to my friends on social media. The response it got caught my eye, lots of likes and comments (at least compared to what I was used to). A friend requested a horse, with “my style”, asked for a quote and details, I knew nothing about any of this. But, here’s where it all happened for me: I DECIDED TO ANSWER AND TAKE A RISK. I gave a quote, client agreed and just went for it!! The end result turned out to be much more than I expected. Even I was in awe of what I had just created!! From then on, it all happened like a snowball effect; people started requesting painting prices, asking for special requests.
This little drawing of a “RHINO” led the way for me as an artist which I never saw coming, but then, something amazing happened. I discovered a TALENT that turned into my PASSION, and a PASSION that turned into my JOB. And when a career and passion come together it doesn’t feel at all like work. But the best part of it all was that I found a BIGGER PURPOSE behind my work. I realized people’s reactions were out of this world. They stood in awe every time, they got lost in my art, their eyes brightened; THEY SMILED. This is when I knew that a piece of me, a piece of my work could do more than just look pretty on a wall. THIS BECAME MY MISSION:
“I hope that every artwork I create, gives you an escape from the difficulties and hardships of life. That at least, for a moment, you will find a ray of light, peace and add color to your life. If I can bring you a smile, that means everything to me. Nothing breaks my heart the most than seeing a world filled with hatred, pain and war. The world needs more light, more peace, more color and more love in every way.”
It hasn’t been an easy road, I basically got into a world I knew nothing about, but I started navigating, learning, studying, doing a lot of networking and, most importantly, TAKING RISKS. Little by little opportunities have come my way, now more than ever and words cannot even begin to describe the gratitude I feel. Everything that’s been happening in my career has gone above and beyond my wildest dreams.
Last week my third solo exhibition took place in my hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico and couldn’t be happier with the results! The paintings looked amazing on those walls, it was a crowded exhibit, and the feedback I received was outstanding. THANK YOU for supporting my career wether in person or by heart, YOU have been key factor for my rising up to success and I am truly grateful!! Feels like I’m walking on clouds just by thinking the way in which my career as an artist has unfolded. I know there are many more things to come and I can’t wait to share it with you; this is only the beginning!!
I hope my story will inspire YOU to make bold moves, push yourself out of your comfort zone ans TAKE RISKS that will take you above and beyond your wildest dreams!
Much love, Marcela
